"The Dreamcatcher - one magical night was all I spent here last October and the energy of this place went to my very core," reminisced Wanderlista founder and creative director Andria Mitsakos.

As the number one bed and breakfast in Puerto Rico and the only vegetarian hotel in San Juan, this beauty was fortunately spared major damage from Hurricane Maria. After much hard work and cleanup, The Dreamcatcher reopened its doors recently, ahead of schedule, welcoming guests with limited services and special rates for volunteers, relief workers and anyone displaced by the storm. And just like Wanderlista, gypsets, nomads and travelers alike welcomed the news!

While most didn’t even realize it, San Juan was starting to have a renaissance before Hurricane Maria. Fabulous cafés, small businesses starting again, fun vintage shops and even a vegan restaurant or two. "On my trip, I met a few Californians who had moved there. Former Venice Beach crowd," said Wanderlista. "They all raved about it saying 'we love it here, so many similarities to California, and we are living on a beautiful Caribbean island with a relatively low cost of living.' But to me, I saw that it was exactly that - the city's core was a cultural pot of U.S. citizens from various states and territories mixed with international expats and tourists working hard to enrich the island's depth, beauty, and charm. This was the magic that shined through and made San Juan."

But now this city, this island, and its citizens need our help more than ever to bring back the magic to Puerto Rico.

Meet The Dream Team.

The Dreamcatcher is a source of income to many Puerto Ricans. It's also a home for local artisan retail, workshops, tours, massage, yoga and of course, gourmet meals prepared fresh and daily, on-site. While insurance is covering property damages, it does not account for the personal property and welfare of their 20 employees or the money lost while the hotel's doors were closed for over a month without guests.

As The Dream Team understands the urgency for relief efforts and the need for solidarity as island communities recover and rebuild. The Dreamcatcher is committed to contributing to the island’s tourism economy by getting their property fully up and running to welcome guests back to share the beauty, culture, and resilience of their beloved Puerto Rico. Therefore, in an effort to revitalize the local community, invigorate local economy and support their staff, The Dreamcatcher owners Sylvia De Marco and Stephan Watts have started a GoFundMe campaign, The Dreamcatcher PR

The funds will help keep the lights on for our guests, pay the priceless Dream Team and support the community. Volunteers arriving to Puerto Rico will need a place to stay, and as an operation base where people can come shower, sleep, eat a fresh meal and reconvene with others, The Dreamcatcher is the central catalyst setting to help Puerto Rico organize and heal.

Amazing, comfortable and clean rooms with private bath and terrace, running water, fan in each room, WIFI, complimentary toiletries, walking distance to beach, walking distance to restaurants, pharmacies and supermarkets, in-room massages and yoga, complimentary coffee and teas, board games and beach chairs, fully equipped kitchen with working stove, solar chargers and flash lights, a beautiful garden with hammocks to get away from the post hurricane blues.

Located in the hip haven neighborhood of Ocean Park in San Juan, the hotel is just steps to the beach and a 10 minute walk to Condado, and features nine rooms and three suites, all individually decorated in unique boho style and charm. The Dreamcatcher is the only vegetarian hotel in San Juan serving its famous three-course breakfast/brunch, homemade kombucha and juices.

Guests may sign up for yoga and meditation classes, take part in sightseeing tours, go paddle boarding, rent a bike, or opt for nature-adventure outings outside the typical tourist attractions. Relaxation as well as volunteer programs are also on the menu!

Very positive picture of what folks can experience despite the storms that hit the island. Exceptionally well written. A+ from a retired college professor who still likes to give grades.
