After visiting my beloved client Sonesta Resorts in St. Maarten early February, I manifested a 24-hour layover in Miami to meet with a few friends, my editor, business development and creative teams, so checking in to sister property Sonesta Coconut Grove was the perfect hub to mix business and pleasure.
Tucked in the quieter bayside area of Miami, is a hidden gem: the stylish Sonesta Coconut Grove. The hotel reflects all of the originality and spice of its trendy, artistic neighborhood on the coast of Biscayne Bay, adjacent to Coral Gables and just minutes away from Miami International Airport, Miami Beach, the area’s most popular attractions like CocoWalk and annual festivities in February including Coconut Grove Arts Festival (Feb. 17-19), Miami International Boat Show (Feb. 15-19) and the SOBEWFF Food Network's South Beach Wine and Food Festival (Feb. 21-25).
The energy of Miami's burgeoning art scene can be felt as soon as you walk into the hotel lobby and through its halls where contemporary works of art are thoughtfully exhibited. The hotel's art collection features original art by many of the most well-respected artists of our time with museum-quality works by both emerging and established artists illuminating some of the most significant movements of contemporary art including Conceptional, Minimal and Pop Art.
A portion of the collection housed at Sonesta Coconut Grove Miami includes pieces by Frank Stella, Robert Rauschenberg, Jan Dibbets, Lynne Golub Gelfman, Carl Palazzolo and others, some specifically commissioned for the hotel’s collection. Be sure to browse through the Sonesta Coconut Grove's Art Collection staying here.

My room, the Deluxe City View, one of 150 spacious guest rooms and suites, featured an expansive balcony with breathtaking views of Miami's city skyline. Each room offers luxurious bedding, contemporary furnishings, flat-screen LCD televisions, complimentary wireless internet service and other fine appointments.

First rendezvous for evening dining and cocktails took me to the signature restaurant Panorama Sky Lounge located on the 8th floor, which also served delicious views in a stylish, contemporary setting. This should be on everyone's go-to spot for sunsets with sweeping views of Biscayne Bay and Coconut Grove as backdrop for culinary creations by Executive Chef Christopher Cramer, who also featured his talent recently at the Coconut Grove Art Festival.

The menu at Panorama features a range of international delicacies, with a special focus on Latin fare. Must try: the crab cakes. It was so good, we ordered another.

Although there are several conference rooms to choose from for larger meetings and events, a sun-filled breakfast poolside outside the restaurant with my design team inspired innovative ideas for a brighter future!
